design center appointment 1

early February Because we are building, we get to decide just about everything that goes into it, as well as the floor plan.
Based on the original floorplan, of which we loved so much, we did changed several rooms in that we added closets, took out closets, drywalled a door, extended counter space and even added a couple rooms.
It's so neat to be able to design our house based on our likings and specifications.
Our house will be 3008 square feet.
Once we settled on the floorplan and signed those papers, we were good to go to the builders Design Center and pick out our interiors.
Bryan and I are really decisive and have an identical vision, so this part of the process was fun for us!
We spent our 3 hours picking out countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms... flooring.... hardware..... master bath... gargage doors.. fireplace.... faucets... tile..... appliances.... electrical.. laundry room.
We knew how important our decisions were and that we'd be living in this house for a long time, so although it was fun, it was a pretty daunting task.
We're so happy with the decisions we made and the upgrades we chose.
The only thing that we couldn't settle on was the outside of our house.
We couldn't pick the color, trim color, shutter color, front door color or shade of brick just yet.
I need to drive around the neighborhood for some more inspiration.
All of the houses have to stay within the same color pallet, which is all pastel neutrals, blues, greens, peaches, purples, tans and creams -- so very Southern.
I love the colors in the neighborhood, but need to love the color of our house!
We're leaning toward two different colors and just need to narrow it down to 1 and then pick the specific shade of that color.

We love living in the south and in the Lake Norman area... our new neighborhood and future home are dreams coming true!

Oh, and a shout out to the mean-spirited and possibly jealous Anonymous commenter from last weeks embedded blog link entitled "Holy Moly."
Yes! This really is our dream house. You can't believe it? Well, we can!! We can't afford a million dollar builder/home overlooking the ocean, so while living within our means, this house and neighborhood is the bomb-diggity! And I'm entirely unfamiliar with the neighborhood or community that you assumed we're moving into. You guessed wrong! This is a really exciting time in my life, so leave me alone. K? Thanks.

  1. how exciting for you two!!! I would LOVE to build a home and be able to have design control!! That is our hopes but we are not in that place right now.

Good for you guys! Definitely pick a color you love for your house =) Can't wait to hear more -- and how nice that you guys have the same ideas for the inside, I'm sure that helped eliminate any unnecessary stress =)

  6. I love anonymous cowards. I don't know what post you're talking about but I don't allow anonymous people for that reason. People are ridiculous.

I know you said you are very decisive and know what you want, but did it get overwhelming?

  9. Wow, that color pallet sounds really beautiful. I'd probably go for the peach house just to really Southern-ify it ... my Ohioan fiance would probably go for a neutral cream or tan!

You're going to have so much fun decorating all of the rooms. Our new home is 1850 sq ft and I'm STILL having a blast shopping for furniture and decor pieces.
