they will be the best of friends... one day

Cali meeting Trace for the first time
... and 3 weeks later :)
Cali and Trace are not quite best friends yet, but they've come a long way.
When we first brought Trace home Cali went into a 2 day depression.
She hid upstairs, never wanted to be around us and always looked sad.
We continued to give her lots of love, attention and walks.
She still sleeps in bed with us, cuddles on the couch with us and gets plenty of treats.
She came around quickly and realized that we weren't replacing her with Trace.
She knows that she is part of our family and has really calmed down since those first couple of days.
"They" say that your love for your pet changes once you have a child... and I agree.
Our love for Cali has grown!
Now that Trace is here, Bryan and I love Cali even more than we thought possible...

  4. The beginning of a beautiful friendship! I'm so glad to hear how you feel about Callie. So often you hear the opposite and I just can't even imagine. We love our dog so very much and can't wait to watch him become a big brother! :)

  5. This makes me so happy to hear! I get discouraged seeing couples go from being obsessed with their pets to not caring about them at all once a baby comes into the picture. I was always worried about it for us someday because our Yorkie is our baby but I love this post and what you said!
Someday Trace and Cali will be inseperable around the house.

  6. I loved this post. We have a furbaby - and even though we are a few years away - I'm worried how he would act when a real baby were to take up our love and attention. I'm so glad that Cali is starting to get adjusted with Trace and I'm sure in no time, like you said, they'll be inseparable.

  7. Oh my gosh! Cali is SO TINY and she is bigger than Trace, that was a cool comparison to see. I just know they will be best friends!

  8. Aww...so cute. My husband keeps telling me that my absurb love for our dogs will change once we have kids and I tell him that same thing...that will grow! :) I love my fur babies too much to put them aside.

Trace is adorable - but of course Cali is too!

  9. My husband and I were just talking about how our little Stella would react once we have a baby. We decided they will be best friends. I think if you consciously decide you are going to make them a part of your family it will be okay! ... I'm glad to see you love her more! That is a lot of comfort for me :) Even if we won't have a little one for a while!

  10. Love this! So many people have told us we won't want or will give our dog no attention but I couldn't imagine our life without the only thing that gives unconditional love no matter what!

  12. Awe I worry about my yorkie he's very sketchy around kids. Hopefully it's just the same as Cali. One day I'll find out. I almost got all sad when you said that your love for Cali changed then was eased when you said it grew! :)

  13. I love this post SO much. I always feel sad and upset when people tell me "you won't feel like that about your pets anymore once you have kids." I'm an only and growing up all our pets were always called my "brothers and sisters" and were a huge part of the family.

  17. This post made me so happy. It's so true that people tend to forget about their pets but they are part of the family too and shouldn't be forgotten just because a baby comes along, there's enough love for everyone! Your right, they will be best friends before you know it!

  18. Adorable!!!

The way Cali's looking at Trace is hilarious! Like "ummm, must you sob so loudly?" haha so cute!

They'll be best buds quicker than you know it.

  19. No kids yet, and I've written about this on my blog and had a few blog readers not be my 'blog' friend anymore because they said I just didn't understand and wouldn't until I have a kid one day and will give my pet up. Um, no. Ain't gonna happen. lol But I'm glad they are getting used to each other! :)

  20. I love the pic where Cali is looking at him while he's crying- too funny! Our dog is just now coming out of her depression- it lasted about 2.5 weeks and consisted of a hunger strike and lots of chewing of our clothes! She seems over it now and I know in a year they will be having so much fun running around together- just like Cali and Trace

  21. I'm so happy to read this! So many give away their pets (their first babies) when their first human babies come into the picture! Glad to hear that your love has only grown!

  23. I love this! Our pup was the same way after we brought Sawyer home. She was depressed and it really made me sad. But now she's the best with him! She is the first to rush to him when she hears him cries and also tries to give him baths with her kisses. :)

  24. Adorable. Trace looks like a little peanut in his swaddle in the swing. We had the same swing and bouncy seat. Truly the best. We just gave them to Brad's cousin and his wife who are expecting in November.
I agree, our love grew for Buddy too. He loves hers now. Licks her all over when we get home. :)
